Ski and Snowboard Racing
THERE WILL NO RACE TRAINING IN TERM 3. KEEP YOUR EYES OPEN FOR NEWS ABOUT POSSIBLE SUMMER TERM COMPETITIONS.
YUsnow is currently involved in 5 national ski and snowboard competitions, racing on dry slope, artificial snow and real snow in Europe.
The majority of our ski and snowboard squad had no alpine racing experience when they first arrived in York, so any competent skier/boarder is welcome to come along and give it a go. We train every Wednesday afternoon with a qualified race coach, at Ski Rossendale, on dry slope and occasionally at the Castleford SNO!zone indoor slope.
2008/2009 accomplishments have included a complete whitewash victory over Lancaster in the annual Roses, the ski team consistently coming top 8 in the country and the snowboard team, in its inaugural year winning their regional league. Individual highlights included our current Snowboard Captain, Marlies, achieving a podium position at the British University Snowsports Championships in Alpe D’Heuz, France last Easter and another snowboarder, Eugene Dodd, winning the British University Indoor Northern Championships.
